Park Village West

Our brief was to provide contemporary additional family living space and an artist’s studio within this Grade II listed mew house in Regent’s Park, originally designed by John Nash. Its listed status and sensitive location required careful negotiation with planners, English Heritage and the Crown Estate.

Space was limited to a small rear garden and our glass extension, including a new basement, brought challenges of excavating behind a terrace of listed houses while minimising disruption.

At ground floor level, the glass extension reads as a clear box against the party wall, with uninterrupted views to a terrace and through the roof. The new living area features a frosted glass floor which provides a strong contrast with more traditional interiors elsewhere. Below, the artist’s studio is a large, light-filled space with generous amounts of diffused light from above. Tall ceilings and a light colour scheme add to the sense of space.
